WELCOME TO WALK LEADERSHIP

We wish you success on your walk and hope you have an enjoyable day. For those of you leading your first walk we hope the following guidelines may be useful.

1. Plan your walk to be as near as possible to the stated distance.
2. Appoint a back marker and ensure that he/she is aware of the route.
3. Ask the back marker to count the number present on the walk.
4.Set a pace that everyone can maintain.
5. Remember to look back frequently to make sure that the group is not too spread out.
6. Stiles and gates are good places to pause and allow everyone to catch up. Do not set off again until the last arrival has had a breather.
7. Follow the right of way and avoid damage to crops. A reminder to stay in single file may be in order.
8. Leave gates and property as you find them.
9. Stay safe when walking on roads. Walk on the verge if possible. Keep on one side bearing in mind bends in the road. The latest edition of The Highway code says that large groups should keep to the left.
10. Straying across the road is dangerous so in the absence of a suitable verge remind your group to stay in single file.

Above all, enjoy the experience!
